The Shipmans, Northampton’s tiny pub, gets amazing facelift before opening

So lovely to see the Shipmans getting a major renovation in Northampton town centre.

This tiny pub (bigger on the inside, like a TARDIS) dates back to the 1700s, but has laid derelict as long as I can remember.

It has a sliver of a front door on the Drapery and a bigger entrance at the back down Drum Lane. Last time I looked at this building, back in the autumn, I couldn’t believe the state of the condition, with water damage and blown bricks making it hard to see how it was still standing.

Its investment has come from a local rather than national pub company, McManus, and huge credit for them doing this, they’re currently recruiting too. Putting this money in will be a huge boost to a flagging town centre.

  1. Yes but especially in the current cost of living crisis who will be able to afford extortionate McManus prices.
