A violent storm passed over Northamptonshire today breaking trees like kindling and blocking roads.
Police urged people to stay indoors as hundreds of wind related incidents, mainly blocked roads, were reported in the aftermath.
We were just praying for the COP26 conference in church when we were hit by what I can only describe as a tornado, which took out a number of trees including this pre Conquest yew. pic.twitter.com/BofwiOyGDo

Farmers went into action across the county clearing the roads while volunteers assisted dragging branches out of the way in towns. There was damage across Northampton’s many tree-lined parkspaces.

We'd also like to say a massive thank you to the members of our farming and rural communities who have massively helped in the efforts to keep roads clear and safe – you're all brilliant.

The weather is a little choppy this morning in #Northampton. Few trees down and power outage.
