Have you been Djangoed?

NQ magazine’s drummer Andy Shaw has put together a series of gigs across the weekend featuring the leading UK exponents of Django Reinhart inspired jazz.

John Wheatcroft on guitar and Martin Winning on clarinet will join Andy on drums, Bill Coleman on bass and Will Ballard on rhythm guitar for ‘HOT MOCAMBO’ – The Amazing Djangology of John Wheatcroft and Martin Winning.

Andy said: “We are so lucky to have these amazing musicians who have done so much in their careers playing for free in the county.

“John Wheatcroft is one of the top exponents in the UK of the Django guitar style (usually called ‘Gypsy Jazz)’ and hails from Liverpool.

“Martin Winning is one of the most highly regarded reed players in the UK with a host of credits to his name from Ray Charles to Tina Turner, from Van Morrison to John Martyn. Mart’s ‘first’ instrument is clarinet, although he’s most known for his superb work on tenor sax. His love of Django and his startling playing makes working with him a joy and privilege. “
