When news broke that the creators of Magee Street Bakery were moving on to pastures new a few hearts broke too.
The tiny Northampton bakery/cafe had earned a great reputation for its crusty sourdough loaves, lavish sandwiches and a good cup of coffee too.
But Elliot and Alfie poured all their time into their cafe and needed to get their lives back. For them, moving on has meant a new start with their marriage and a honeymoon in Mauritius.
Fortunately Carl and Jooles Joyce have stepped up and taken over the business which re-opened today (September 12) with a fresh lick of paint but the same philosophy of good food baked with love.
Jooles, who was already working at Magee Street, said: “We would like to welcome all, old friends and new. Business as usual, with all the old favourites. The fantastic newly wed couple Elliot and Alfie Cantrell is going are going to be a hard act to follow, but we hope we do them proud.”
The first batch of sourdough loaves sold out and among the customers enjoying the new old Magee Street Bakery was a group of Saints players, including Wales and Lions star Dan Biggar.
