Delapré Abbey revives Bouverie fete

Delapré Abbey is reviving a traditional fete run by its former owners. The Abbey has released the following statement detailing its plans:

Calling all creative bakers and jam makers, Delapré Abbey is bringing back the traditional village show to the local community. On August the 27th we will host some thrilling competitions, marvellous market stalls and fantastic fairground games.

Reminiscing on the community fetes held by the Bouverie’s many years ago, Delapré Abbey will be using inspiration from its previous owners to create an event open to all.

An event to appeal to all the senses with fantastic fun sounds of harmonica music and organ playing, sights of fairground splendour and smells from the diverse culinary delights. With children’s rides, hook the duck and a coconut shy there will be many activities to keep the children entertained all day long. The event will welcome local charities and community groups to come along to showcase their work and promote their cause to the local community. Alongside this in typical English fashion you can grab a spot of tea and ponder the mysterious worlds of fact and fiction at our second-hand book stall.

We are encouraging our guests to get creative and enter some of our delightful competitions such as preserve making and vegetable growing. Showcase your most impressive veg or most innovative flavoured chutney alongside entries from handcrafted items to the most perfect flower. Get the strawberries and cream at the ready for your entry to the best Victoria sponge category or create a miniature English garden masterpiece with the kids in best miniature garden. Each competition will be judged by professionals in their fields from the local community and beyond.

The fun isn’t just open to us humans, we also have something for our 4-legged, furry companions. Make sure they put their best paw forward in our dog competition. The judge will have the unenviable task of choosing the best haircut, waggiest tail and best dog fancy dress amongst others.

All specifications for each category can be found on our website or Facebook page.

Vikki Pearson, Visitor Experience Manager says; “We’re looking forward to welcoming so many different groups from the Northamptonshire community to the Abbey. The show will be an exciting day with lots of family fun.”

All in all, the Delapré Village show is set to be full of quintessentially British fun and we welcome all to enjoy the spectacular with us. With inspiration from the Bouverie family, the show will go above and beyond to encourage community spirit and some healthy competition. Whether you are entering a contest or just coming along for the atmosphere there will be something to keep you entertained all day.
