Christmas at the Charles Rennie Mackintosh House

It’s Christmas and, once again, 78 Derngate will be decorated in the traditional way it would have been at the time the Bassett-Lowke’s lived here.  From early November until our season ends on Sunday, December 17th, some rooms in the Mackintosh House will be lightly transformed to depict typical household festivities.

There’ll be signs of mince pies baking in the kitchen, festive florals around and a large, traditionally decorated Christmas tree will be displayed in the dining room, where tea time crockery and mince pies will adorn the table – although only for show!

Featuring extraordinarily modern and striking interiors, this was Mackintosh’s last major commission and the only house he designed in England.

The Northamptonshire Guild of Designer Craftsmen and Roy Holding’s Travels with Roy are exhibiting in the Galleries until the season ends.

Alongside this historic house our Gift/Craft Shop and Online Shop offer a unique shopping experience, showcasing a range of quality Christmas gifts, cards, jewellery and craft.  The Dining Room Restaurant serves a full range of contemporary cuisine, including a festive menu, and is especially popular for its Afternoon Tea.
