Lena Davis has been a music producer, writer and Personal Manager; a photographer and journalist and, over thirty years ago, got together with Caroline Scattergood to create the Caring & Sharing Trust to bring music, hope and love into the lives of people with learning disabilities and their families from throughout Northamptonshire.
As you have probably guessed, I read a heck of a lot of books!
So, when one stands out and is written by an unknown author, it certainly gets my attention.
This was a couple of years ago and the title was “The Cuckoo’s Calling”. The writer was an unknown called Robert Galbraith and the talent of this “new-comer” was awesome. It soon turned out that Robert Galbraith was just a pseudonym for the prolific J K Rowling, the best-selling author of the “Harry Potter” series.Since then she’s gone on to write “The Silkworm” and “Career of Evil” all of which topped the national and international best-seller lists.
However, it was when they translated to television that they really grabbed the nation.
It has been quite a while to wait for this latest book but “Lethal White” (Sphere £20.00) has been well-worth waiting for.
I must admit that reading this latest Cormoran Strike and Robin Ellacott detective novel has impacted strongly over my Christmas and New Year. Knowing that a TV adaptation is in the works has meant that I have been trying to finish the book first. This hasn’t been as easy as it sounds as it is absolutely huge! The thickest detective novel I have come across in years!
Is it worth pursuing – Oh yes, oh yes, oh yes! It is absolutely terrific.
And now for something completely different! “Growing Sustainable Children” (Lindisfarne Books £20.00). The authors Ronni Sands and Willow Summer have merged their love of gardening with a love for humankind, particularly children.
These days children need every opportunity there is to enjoy the fresh air and experience nature. Those with a garden are very lucky. And those with a parent who loves gardening and being close to their children are particularly blessed.
The authors hope that schools will use the book to help with their programs of personal enrichment for children. The Steiner schools certainly do.
