Little Criminals are on the loose at Delapre Abbey with Warts and All

Warts and All Theatre Young Actors groups have been working on two productions during July at Delapré Abbey after being awarded funding through Arts Council England for two open air productions.

The shows with Young People aged 8-21 have been in production at Delapré Abbey in Northampton this summer.

The company’s Young Actors aged 8-14 present Little Criminals by Evan Placey on 22nd and 23rd July.
And  new production of the classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale Hansel and Gretel by Carl Grose ran in the refurbished abbey from 911 July.

We feel very proud to have secured funding for these projects. Competition for funding is very high, and I think the fact that we have been awarded the funds demonstrates our potential for creating high quality artistic experiences with and for the Northampton community. This summer marks our first set productions, and we have exciting plans for next year.”

A member of the Young Actors Programme Lauren Moody said: “I’m in my final year at Northampton College at the moment; I can’t wait for the performances with Warts and All. It’s great that Warts and All Theatre offer this opportunity to the local community, everyone gets on so well and we are really challenged to create high quality theatre. I’m on the Bursary Scheme which means I can take part for free.”

These two productions engaged over 35 young people aged 8-21 over five days of performances. Rehearsals have been underway for the last couple of months through Warts and All Theatre’s weekly sessions. The company is currently accepting applications from Young Actors who would like to join in September.

Christopher Elmer-Gorry added ‘It’s great for the young people who are taking part. We pride ourselves on creating a high quality process and this funding means that our product (the shows!) can be well resourced, to create a truly unforgettable experience for our Young Actors.
