Festival of Chaos

I came out of Northampton's Royal and Derngate theatre complex tonight thinking about blood and weddings and what songs are really for and what knives are really for and what plays are really for... Blood Wedding did that. It's an adaptation of Federico Lorca's play about the gory end of a doomed union. It's one of a trilogy of plays that are the backbone of a summer Festival of Chaos now declared open in Northampton.

It began during the afternoon with Bacchae in part of the disused press hall at the Northampton Chronicle & Echo – the newspaper I write for – which the very same day published for the first time as a weekly after a century of publishing daily. What better place to start a Festival of Chaos than somewhere at the heart of its own change and transformation?

It has struck a chord with me as an interesting theme for the next few months, with so many major events circling on the national horizon. I’ve decided to start a storify about it with some of the items I have raked up from the web about it tonight.
